Our life was in financial turmoil before meeting Becky Rice. Our ‘financial planner’ always asked us two questions: How much money per month do you want in retirement? And What is your risk tolerance? When the stock market crashed during the 911 crisis and again in 2008, the advice we received was ‘You have to be in the market for the long haul.’ But I wanted to scream, ‘We are 60 years old, what do you mean by the long haul?’ We had enough, giving up our control to someone who was punching our information into a piece of software and spitting out a configuration of diversified mutual funds.
Today, we are totally out of the market, having transferred our IRA mutual funds into a IRA annuity with a fixed rate of return. We also purchased three dividend paying whole life insurance policies to meet our insurance needs and stabilize our planning for retirement. By liquidating 10% of our annuity, eliminating some expenses Becky found in our budget, and providing our regular annual IRA investment amount, we are meeting the premium. Becky told us I would need to work to the age of 70, which was an easier pill to swallow than facing our ‘financial planner every six months. We are now in control of our financial future.
